Kinoptik Tegea 9.8mm

Kinoptik Tegea 9.8mm: King of the Wide Lenses

Our 7th project, the Kinoptik Tegea 9.8mm ultra wide is a single, vintage, prime lens, and it is extraordinary! It’s not just really wide…it’s also very fast (f1.8). It pairs well with Kowa Prominars, Cooke Panchros, Zeiss Super Speeds, Super Baltars, Canon Rangefinders, and many more vintage primes and zooms from the 50’s/60’s/70’s. S35 sensor coverage makes it perfect for use with the Alexa 35 or any S35 camera. This lens is design is over 60 years old and it’s still the King of the wide lenses.

Inspired by the original housing, Alex kept the silhouette and logo from the original lens. However, functionality has been improved in every way. Close focus is a remarkable 7” which is less than a 1/2 inch from the front element! The original iris has been replaced with a modern, robust, circular, 12 blade design. Focus and iris rings are now accessible, reliable, and super smooth with a 320 degree focus rotation. The front diameter is standard 114mm. It’s been rehoused before, but never like this :)

It’s also our first lens designed and built by Alex Nelson at Zero Optik in Los Angeles, California. Zero Optik is known for its unrivaled craftsmanship, aesthetic, and performance in the rehousing industry and this Kinoptik 9.8mm showcases why they are the best in the business.
