3X MULTI FORMAT ZOOM

Introducing the second multi-format zoom lens from Ancient Optics…The Canon FD 35-105 is the perfect full frame, vintage, mid range, zoom lens to pair with all the best FF prime lenses from the 1970’s. K35s we are looking at you, but this lens will play well with a wide variety of popular vintage glass from that era. Add our focal reducer in LPL hard mount and you have a Canon FD 24-75 T2.9 (f2.6) designed for S35 sensors! Whichever format you need, we’ve got you covered :)

The look of this lens is everything we love about Canon K35/FD. Sharp in the center with moderate fall off in the corners. Bokeh has a gorgeous texture you cannot reproduce with modern lenses. The coatings are the famous Canon S.S.C. coatings which produce bold, beautiful gold and purple flares, but the lens can handle backlight and high contrast without issue. Close focus has been drastically improved from 4’6” to 2’9” which is a game changer for this lens.

Canon designed a very special iris that compensates through out the zoom range to achieve a constant aperture during zooming. Because of the complex dance between the iris and the zoom group, we kept the original iris. As a bonus, we discovered that we loved the unique pentagon shape from the original 5 blade iris. Something you rarely see in any lens from any era.

Our multi-format system makes it incredibly simple and quick to change from one format to the other. Only a screwdriver and 10 minutes are needed to make the swap. We chose a sexy all black anodizing for the full frame version and an eye catching sliver and black when built in S35 mode. Not only do these 2 builds look beautiful and unique, but it makes it easy to immediately see which format the lens is set up with.

We are re-writing the rules for what everyone thought was possible with vintage lenses. Not only are we curating and preserving legendary vintage glass for cinematographers, but we are delivering innovative rehousing features only seen in modern lenses. And we are just getting started :)
