FUJI EBC PRIMEs

A Treasure Discovered

The Fuji EBC lenses are truly a hidden gem in the vintage lens world. Originally introduced in 1971, these full frame SLR lenses used unconventional designs to create fast and compact lenses with all the characteristics we look for in a vintage cinema lens.

Fuji’s innovative Electron Beam Coatings (EBC) enabled them to apply up to 11 ultra thin layers of metallic lens coatings to a single glass surface. Something unheard of at the time and still part of Fuji’s method today. Obsess over the purple, red, and gold flares as light passes through the exotic metals used in Fuji’s EBC process.

Each lens in the set has excellent center sharpness with gradual fall off in the corners. Slight spherical aberration gives highlights a gentle glow and subtle softness. Flares are colorful and bold, but easily controlled. Bokeh is textured and pleasant across the set.

We used Fuji green Cerakote on the beauty ring to match the green engraving accents. The rest of the lens is a durable, black, Type 3 anodizing with easy to read white focus and iris numbers. The T stops are marked with color coded witness marks as a tribute to the depth of field system on the original lenses.

Fuji didn’t make a suitable focal length between 50mm and 100mm. Our friends at True Lens Service in the U.K. designed the gorgeous 70mm f2 using Fuji source glass and proprietary optics. It’s truly unique and completes an already incredible set.
